About This Place

Located just off US-287 in Decatur, TX, Catfish O'Harlies serves up a genuine taste of Southern seafood with a welcoming, down-home atmosphere that invites guests to linger over hearty, satisfying meals. Specializing in classic seafood dishes, this beloved local spot is known foremost for its perfectly fried catfish that strikes the ideal balance—crispy, golden on the outside and tender, flaky inside. Seafood lovers will find joy in their Fried Shrimp and Grilled Catfish Plate, while those seeking variety can indulge in the Frog Legs Combo or savor the 8 oz Grilled Salmon paired with grilled shrimp, baked potato, and an ample salad bar.

The menu reads like a love letter to traditional Southern comfort food: Catfish Dinners come with homemade tartar and cocktail sauces that elevate the delicate flavors, while sides such as hush puppies (freshly revived from their original recipe), pinto beans cooked with fixin’s, creamy potato salad, and house-made gravy add warmth and nostalgia to each plate. The Little Fryer's Menu caters perfectly to younger palates with options like Chicken Strips, Catfish, and Chicken Fried Steak, all thoughtfully priced and prepared with care.

What truly rounds out the experience at Catfish O'Harlies is its renowned salad bar—a treasure trove of freshness in a casual setting, boasting everything from crisp greens to intriguing additions like old-school pudding and flavorful baked beans. The salad bar has received affectionate praise from regulars, who highlight the freshness of dressings and variety offered. Even beyond the food, the atmosphere here is comfortably unpretentious, echoing the feeling of a family gathering where everyone is welcome.

Patrons often comment on the portions being satisfying without overwhelming, the crispness of fried offerings, and the perfect grilling of shrimp skewers and salmon dishes. One guest, Chevi Hodges, noted the “fries are solid” and “salad bar was fresh and good,” while Jason Matus exuberantly declared the fish “fried to perfection” and raved about some of the standout crab cakes (a hidden gem worth seeking out). Another diner praised the return of the hand-made hush puppies, a sign that Catfish O’Harlies listens and honors its culinary roots.

The service, while occasionally a bit leisurely during quieter times, reflects the laid-back, friendly vibe of the restaurant. This combination of honest Southern hospitality, consistently tasty meals, and a welcoming environment makes Catfish O’Harlies a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Texas-style seafood and comfort food classics. To top it all off, don’t miss the homemade fried pies for dessert—warm, flaky, and just the right sweet finish.

Whether you're swinging by for a quick lunch or settling in for a relaxed family dinner, Catfish O’Harlies offers a flavorful journey into seafood done right, seasoned generously with a sense of tradition and love for quality cooking.

Food was good all around. Our table ordered - grilled chicken, chicken tenders, chicken fried steak, fried shrimp, fried catfish, and sides included fries, okra, mashed potatoes. Fries are solid, okra was kind of meh, gravy good, mashed potatoes were approved, and salad bar was fresh and good. Ranch was fresh. Service was a little slow for as few people as there were when we got there, but it did get busier. Portions also very good.

ERMAGURD! I'M GONNA BE HONEST, THE COLESLAW WASN'T LIKE MY MOMMA MAKES, BUT SHE NEVER COULD COOK WORTH A DAMN. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS OLD SCHOOL SALAD BAR SETUP, EVEN HAD PUDDING. THE WIFE AND I HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE HERE. FOOD WAS 10 OUT OF 10. FISH FRIED TO PERFECTION, NOT TO SOFT, NOT TO HARD. (THATS WHAT SHE SAID) AND THOSE CRAB CAKES... NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER HAD A CRAB CAKE THAT TASTED LIKE SEA FOOD, HOT, MOIST, TENDER. (THATS WHAT SHE SAID). ALSO THEY HAD THAT GOOD COUNTY MUSIC PLAYING JUST LOUD ENOUGH, MY WIFE AND I FOUND OURSELVES SINGING. WE WILL BE RETURNING WITH FRIENDS TWICE A YEAR ON OUR WAY TO REDNECKS WITH PAYCHECKS.

Stopped by on way back home.. had passed it several times and decided to give it a try. Was well worth it and fresh. The fillets are on the smaller side but still good. Got the fillet and shrimp combo with Mac. Meal comes with a salad bar and has good options to add on. Also they seemed to have what was baked beans near the salad bar. Definitely will stop by again.

This place does Catfish perfect? Of course they have many items on the menu, but for me it has to be the Catfish. My wife ordered the shrimp dinner, when she went to the salad bar I just had to borrow one of her shrimp. Yepper, they are tasty, too. Good eats.

Good rebound from covid days, and finally brought back the original hush puppy's and got rid of the frozen tubular ones. Seems as the salad bowls maybe smaller but the entre portions are great. I had the grilled shrimp with fries. Plenty of shrimp on the skewers and they were cooked perfect. My bud had the chicken fried steak and mashed potato...loved it. Couple sodas to wrap and all were happy. Server was very friendly. We'll be back. Bout $27 each with tip.

This restaurant is efficient and good at what they do. All the staff were great and welcoming. We were greeted and offered a mini pail of peanuts. The catfish did not disappoint and they have a salad bar that also has beans. Good for groups and families. This is a nice place for eating a planned meal out or an efficient eating stop while on a road trip.

Thanks so much. It was great. Roasted peanuts to start with. The salad bar is yummy. A bowl of hot pinto beans adds to the salad bar. Then the meal. I had 3 fish pieces and five giant fried oysters. Plus 4 hush puppy sticks and fried okra. Took half home. Too full for dessert. Shout out to our waiter, Angel, very proficient, friendly, and helpful.
